Христос Воскрес, православные!

Christ is risen, Orthodox faithful!

Всех поздравляю с великим праздником.

I congratulate everyone on the occasion of this great holiday.

Неправославныx, неверующих и атеистов тоже поздравляю. Знаю, что таких много среди тех, кто читает этот уютный дневничок. Вот для них и пишу этот пост (православных-то чего агитировать?).

I also congratulate non-Orthodox, non-believers and atheists. I know that there are many such people among those reading this cozy little diary. And it is for them that I’m writing this post (why campaign among the Orthodox, after all?).

Я до 25 лет был атеистом, причем достаточно воинственным. Сейчас я человек верующий, но так как хорошо помню себя до 25-ти, то без ужаса, шока и трепета отношусь к антиклерикальным позициям, сугубо научному взгляду на мироустройство и высмеиванию нарочитой религиозности. Последнее даже и полезно.

Until the age of 25, I was an atheist — and a fairly militant one at that. Now I am a believer, but since I well remember the person I was until I turned 25, I don’t react with horror, shock, and trembling to anti-clerical positions, or to an exclusively scientific view of the universe, or to the ridicule of ostentatious religiosity. The latter is actually quite beneficial.

Однако, именно Пасха мне кажется лучшим претендентом на звание Праздника_для_Всех. Это круче Нового Года, друзья мои.

Still, it seems to me that Easter, of all holidays, is the best candidate for the title of Holiday_for_Everyone. It’s cooler than New Year’s, my friends.

Подумайте сами: это же праздник о самом важном. О неизбежности победы Добра над злом. Праздник надежды. Праздник веры в лучшее будущее.

I mean, just think about it: it’s a holiday about what’s most important. About the inevitability of the victory of Good over evil. A holiday of hope. I holiday of belief in a better future.

С чем сражался Он? С враньём, лицерием, рабством, несправедливостью, узурпацией власти и жуликами с ворами. Со всем тем, что так отвратительно нам. И было отвратительно многим до нас. И будет отвратительно многим после нас.

What was He fighting against? Against lies, hypocrisy, slavery, injustice, usurpation of power, crooks and thieves. Against everything we find so repulsive. And which so many found repulsive before us. And which many will find repulsive after us.

И было Ему очень тяжело. Поддержки нет, митинги запрещены, ОМОН копьями тычет, СМИ захвачены фарисеями, во власти - мерзавцы с недвижимостью за границей. Да и в оргкомитете Его партии, каждый двенадцатый - платный провокатор и предатель, на службе у тогдашнего "Центра "Э".

And He had a very rough time of it. He found no support; his rallies were prohibited; the OMON* poked at him with their spears; mass media outlets were controlled by pharisees; and scumbags with real estate abroad were in power. And in the organizing committee of His party, every twelfth person was a paid provocateur and traitor in the service of that period’s equivalent of “Center E.”**

И не сажают на 15 суток с трехразовым питанием, а сразу плёткой-семихвосткой с крючьями по спине фигачат.

And instead of incarcerating him for 15 days with three meals a day, they immediately took a seven-tailed, hook-tipped scourge to His back.

Злодеи разгромили всё, что было. Учеников завставили отречься. Его самого пытали и убили. И всё рухнуло, и непроглядная тьма.

Those scoundrels destroyed everything. They made his disciples renounce him. He Himself was tortured and killed. And everything fell apart; everything was darkness, without a glimmer of hope.

Что все наши "сложности" и "проблемы" по сравнению с тем, что Он испытал?

What are all of our “difficulties” and “problems” compared with what He endured?

Но Добро, Правда, Вера, Надежда и Любовь всё равно победили. (Да, мне самому выглядит странно, что всё это написано с заглавных букв, но как же иначе написать?)

And yet Good, Truth, Faith, Hope and Love still emerged victorious. (Really, even I find it strange to see all these words written with capital letters, but how else can they be written?).

И всегда победят. Об этом и написано в странной строчке на непонятном языке, которую сегодня цитируют миллион раз подряд: «Христос воскресе из мертвых, смертию смерть поправ и сущим во гробех живот даровав».

And they always will be victorious. This is the meaning of that strange line, written in an incomprehensible language,*** recited today millions of times over: “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and to those in the tombs bestowing life.”

С великим праздником Воскресения Христова всех вас, верующие и неверующие.

I congratulate everyone — believers and non-believers — on the great holiday of the Resurrection of Christ.

С великим праздником неизбежности победы Добра!
